Well it’s that time of year again! Summer is coming to a close and the school year is upon us, which means it’s time for our Student Council to get back to work planning an exciting, jam-packed year of activities. What better way to kick off this new school year than by organizing the most anticipated event of them all, homecoming!
The council met at 1pm today and spent hours ensuring that this year’s homecoming would be one we will never forget. After some heavy thinking and debating, the council came to a consensus on several key aspects of the event. The theme of this year’s homecoming will take our imaginations’ to the East Cast shoreline where we will “sail through the night” surrounded by anchors, sailboats, life preservers, and waves at the nautical themed dance. Of course no dance could be called nautical without a few “sea” themed songs. We will watch the Homecoming Court strut down to the stage to the song Swallowed in the Sea by Coldplay. Then we will all get our own chance to take the dance floor again as things slow down a bit and we dance to the song Tenerife Sea by Ed Sheeren.
Before we even attend the dance on October 10th from 8pm-11pm however, we must spend the week gathering school spirit through dress up days, lunchtime activities, the Friday afternoon pep rally followed by the Homecoming parade, and the Friday night Homecoming football game! There’s no need to change out of your weekend sleeping clothes (unless they are not dress code appropriate) on Monday morning, because Monday, October 5th is Pajama Day! Look through your closet and pull out all of your vacation essentials because Tuesday, October 6th is Dress like a Tourist Day! On Wednesday October, 7th we’re leaving the twenty-first century for a Decade Day dress up. Rep your grade for Color Wars on Thursday, October 8th, freshman wear green or ‘favorite senior’ shirt, sophomores wear red, juniors wear blue, and seniors wear togas! We will finish off an eventful week by showing our school pride for Wildcat Spirit Day! We still have more homecoming activities in the works, so keep your eyes and ears open for more information!
When all of the necessary decisions had been finalized, we concluded our meeting by making huge nautical themed posters to hang above the staircase in the commons with all of the homecoming dance/dress up day information and enjoying some well-deserved pizza from AJ’s. A big thanks to everyone who found time in their valuable last days of summer to come out make this important planning meeting such a huge success!
